Air and Water Dreamcatcher

 

A 7in ring wrapped in dark blue thread and webbed with light blue. In the middle is a 3in ring wrapped in light blue thread and webbed in white. Freshwater pearls were used in both rings, white for the larger one and dark blue ones in the smaller one. A crystal like prism hangs in the very center of the duo. 

Blue Moon

     A small, 3in brass ring that I wrapped in light blue thread and webbed in dark blue.      

WIP Wednesday: Blue Dreams

Reading:

Dreadnought by Cherie Priest. I'm about halfway though and loving it. It's a continuation of the story she began in Boneshaker, but not as I expected it to be. I was thrown for a bit until I saw the connection and in this way she shows more of what's going on in this fictional America she's created. It's a very interesting and fun read.

Dreamcatcher:
I'm taking a couple days off from knitting so I can work on the two dreamcatchers that were ordered. I have the smallest one nearly done, though the hangings at the bottom are giving me fits since I didn't tie the knot right. I think I need to take it off and redo it. Other than that and cleaning up the stray threads, this one is done.



The larger one is further along than last week, but just barely. I still need to do the small one that will hang in the center of the 7inch ring after I web and bead the large ring. I always forget how much thread it takes to wrap a large ring ... and how long it takes.

Gloves & Dreams

Reading:

Dreadnought by Cherie Priest. Okay, technically I'm not reading it since I finished my last book last night and haven't actually started this one, but it's next on the list and I'll start later today.

Knitting:
Once I managed to get it through my head that I just wasn't going to be able to do what I wanted with these and simply went back to the basic pattern it's nearly flown off the needles. This is mostly yesterday's work; I started the day with the cuff (white portion) only about half done. I'm already up to the fingers. I had wanted to do some colorwork on the cuff but that's just not possible with acrylic in such a small space. I have some plans for wool though. *grin*



Dreamcatcher:
I probably would have finished the wrapping on this one had I not ran out of thread. I need to dig in the thread box and see if I have more and get Lynn to help me unbury the sewing machine so I can spin it on to the bobbin. Otherwise I'll be making a trip to the store with the ring in hand to find the matching color.

Reading:

Let's Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson. Fans of the Bloggess will know why this is an awesome and hilarious book. A huge thank you to Dusti for letting me read through the book before mailing it off to her. 


Knitting: 
A new scarf!! It's more double knitting but this time it's for Decepticons, not Autobots. So far it's working up a lot faster. I'm not sure if it's because I've had more practice or because it's a little less fiddly at this stage than the other design was. It's most likely a bit of both.



Dreamcatcher:
I've had a couple of commissions for dreamcatchers so I'm trying to keep those moving along as well. Particularly when I'm out and can't work on a complicated chart that I have to check every row. I managed to get this whole ring wrapped Monday night while we were out doing some of the con planning with the director.



Space City Con:
We're still in the planning stages but things are really ramping up for the first year of Space City Con. Lynn and I are in charge of the volunteers and I'm really glad we've had this chance to help out. The committee planning all this is awesome and the guests that we are bringing in are simply incredible. If you're a geek of any sort you should check it out. We're adding guests, dealers, and entertainment on a regular basis. This is going to be spectacular.

Catching Dreams

I've still got about half of a Chinook Shawl to finish knitting up but I did manage to get a dreamcatcher finished. A customer asked for a black on black design with a crow or raven charm in the center. I found a cute little raven charm online and added in a few black seed beads I had on hand.

This is a close shot of a dreamcatcher I'm working on for a customer. I wrap the brass ring in thread which allows me a wide range of colors. It's also a great thing to have in my hands while I read as it's fairly simple to do.

Behind Again

It somehow seems wrong that the girl with over 1,000 books on her shelves has only 4 craft books. There's an imbalance there and balance is always necessary.

Not all of my creative brain is tied up in knitting. I still have all my supplies for dreamcatchers and even have been working out details on a custom one that's been requested. This is only 2 of the 4 boxes that I have. On the plus side, the seed beads can also be used for knitting. They're useful like that.

 Day 20 in A Month of Craft Photos by Untangling Knots is Finishing.

I try to do quite a lot of my finishing while the work is in progress, like weaving in ends. It makes it so much easier at the end when I've done multiple color changes or used several balls of yarn. Then I'm not staring at a million ends to weave in and feeling the urge to toss the nearly done project into the corner. And yes ... that's the baby blanket in the finishing picture, make of that what you will. *wink*

My husband Lynn has been the biggest supporter of this knitting insanity I've dropped into. He accompanies me to yarn stores, listens to me ramble on about fiber content, plays the part of a swift when I'm winding yarn, has attempted to hand wind a ball of yarn for me, makes suggestions on color and design, and handles most of the math for me. I really don't know what I'd do without his support.

More progress! Trying to ignore the black hole feeling ...

Knitting:
I'm thrilled with how fast this is going along. I'm already on color 6 of 9 color changes. It has finally reached the point where the individual rows are starting to feel like they take forever but I just have to keep going because I 'really' want to see how the next row is going to look with the colors.




Also:
I have a commission for a dreamcatcher! So I've got all my things together and now I need to send the customer a picture before starting. Yay!
